A real estate attorney is still required for a for-sale-by-owner transaction in South Carolina, since state law requires every closing to be conducted under the supervision of a South Carolina licensed attorney regardless of whether an agent is involved. Skipping an agent does not remove that requirement, it only removes the agent's role in marketing and negotiating the sale.
