Should I ever pay a deposit before signing a lease?
Paying a deposit before signing a lease is generally risky, since it hands over money before either party has a binding agreement outlining the terms both sides are committing to. A legitimate landlord or agent should be willing to provide a lease for review before any money changes hands.
