An ADU, or accessory dwelling unit, is a smaller second home built on the same lot as a house, whether that's a converted garage, a basement unit, or a standalone cottage. Whether Awendaw allows one on your parcel depends on the town's zoning district, setbacks, and septic capacity, since much of Awendaw is not on public sewer.
