What is warehousing of apartments?
Warehousing describes a landlord or developer holding rental units vacant and off the market, rather than leasing them, often while waiting out a renovation timeline, a regulatory change, or a planned redevelopment. It reduces available rental supply in the short term even though the units physically exist. The practice draws criticism in tight rental markets because it can worsen availability without adding any new housing.
